DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY

Dance movement therapy (DMT) is a form of psychotherapy that is based on our mind and body connection. Along with verbal engagement, we also involve our bodies, their movements, and the feelings and sensations that arise in our bodies during the process. Movements that arise in our bodies are connected to our subconscious, and therefore they help the clients to understand themselves better. They also provide us with a way to heal without making it confrontational.

  • DMT is not a dance class, no choreographic routine will be taught to you.

  • You don't need to know how to dance.

  • The therapist is not a dance teacher.

Group Therapy

Groups are formed between individuals who want to work on similar goals. Groups could be formed for confidence building, social or behavioural challenges, loss, grief and so. To form a group there need to be a minimum of four individuals.

Why group therapy will help you:

  • You feel more accepted as in the group there will be people with similar experiences.

  • You feel seen and validated.

  • Even though the group is formed between individuals with similar experiences, they each offer different perspectives and coping strategies.

  • You create a new support system with the group.

  • Groups not only help to ease that sense of isolation, but also give the opportunity to practice re-engaging with people

Individual Therapy

In a one on one therapy setting, the goals are tailor made to the needs of the individuals. Individuals can use this space to learn, unlearn, discover, develop, and integrate habit, skills and behaviour. Managing expectations, healing from trauma, working through difficult family or relationship dynamics are other areas that you may want to work on in indvidual therapy.

For Indian Classical Dancers

These sessions are specifically curated for Indian Classical Dancers. The sessions are developed to provide a space for dancers to move, share, and discuss freely. The experiential is focused on building a strong and positive relationship with their bodies, encouraging the development of body and spatial awareness, and discovering one's own creative abilities.

How was it developed?

A Research was conducted by Deepali Salil as a part of her diploma in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) from The Arts Therapists CoLab, in association with Artsphere Pune and in academic collaboration with St. Mira’s College for Girls, Pune. I was under the supervision of Jaya Rajagopalan (Ph.D. Clinical, Counselling &  Applied Psychology) and Devika Mehta (Dance Movement Psychotherapist (R-DMP, UK), M.Sc Dance Movement Psychotherapy, UK, M.A Clinical Psychology).  The research was with a group of Indian classical dancers to assess the impact that a safe and non - judgemental space has on the dancers. The sessions were conducted through the DMT modality. The end results were very promising. The whole group unanimously agreed that there was a positive impact on their dance and also felt more connected to themselves on a personal level. They mentioned an increase in their creative abilities along with body and spatial awareness.

These sessions are available for group therapy and individual therapy.

PRANIC HEALING

Pranic Healing is a highly developed and tested system of energy treatment that uses prana to balance, harmonize and transform the body’s energy processes. Prana is the Sanskrit word that means life-force. This invisible bio-energy or vital energy keeps the body alive and maintains good health. In acupuncture, the Chinese refer to this energy as Chi. In Japanese it is called Ki, as in Reiki. Pranic Healing is a simple, yet powerful and effective system of non-touch energy healing. It is based on the fundamental principle that the body is a self repairing entity that possesses the innate ability to heal itself. Pranic Healing works on the understanding that the healing process is accelerated by increasing the life force or vital energy to the affected part of the body. Pranic Healing is applied on the bio- electromagnetic field known as the aura, or energy body, which is a mold or blue print that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body. It is in the aura, or energy body, that physical ailments first appear as energetic disruptions, before manifesting themselves as problems in the physical body.

What can I expect in a treatment?

During the pre-treatment consultation, the facilitator will discuss with you in detail regarding your concerns. The treatment is carried out with the client from a distance, which means the client need not be in the same geographical location.  The treatment is non-invasive. Pranic Healing is a non-touch therapy.  There is no equipment involved. Occasionally the facilitator may choose to use a crystal during the treatment.

Pranic Healing is designed to complement and integrate with any other medical practice.
